WebReg: Redesigned

Group Members:
Giovanna Kim-Van Mancinelli, Hamilton Ko, Andy Dien, Eric Liu, Ronica Cheng

Overview

Our group, Informagics, decided to redesign WebReg, a website used by college students to register for classes, to create a better user experience and make the website more accessible when searching and enrolling in classes.

Brainstorming

During this stage, the group collaborated to come up with the different websites that we wanted to consider with our redesign before we narrowed down to WebReg. Once we determined to focus on WebReg, we then started to consider some of the main issues that might appear and that we want to focus on. This led us to focus on the general experience of having to input a specific class code to enroll in a class and having to go through different tabs in order to either enroll or drop a class as well as viewing the classes that a student is already enrolled in.

Interviewing

Before we started to interview people in relation to WebReg, our group first came up with a list of questions that all participants would answer along with a protocol to ensure that each interview is being conducted the same way. Once we finalized a list of questions that we would ask our participants, we then gathered our participants and recorded their responses. Our interview protocol can be viewed here .

Expert Analysis

After conducting our interviews, our group started to conduct additional research to learn more about the website and the features that were present and available to the user. Then, we determined which features still needed to be present in the redesign as well as what features needed to be redone. The report can be viewed here.

Prototyping

After conducting our research and going through the results of our interviews, our group used that information to start creating mockups and then an interactive prototype for users to test out and gain more feedback on. The protocol we followed for our prototype along with our notes can be viewed here.

Final Report

At the end, our group compiled together the findings that we discovered as we worked on this project. This included documentation on the sketches we made for the interface of WebReg and the prototype that we created. A reflection was also done for our group to determine what went well throughout this project and what we believed could have been improved on to either have a smoother experience or to produce a better result. The final report can be viewed here.
